  • What is Structured Family Caregiving?

    Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a caregiving service where the caregiver who provides daily care and support to the individual lives with the person receiving care.

  • What is the pay rate for structured family caregiving?

    The state of Indiana pays the provider (agency) per day based on either of the three levels seen below:

    • $77.54/day Level 1
    • $99.71/day Level 2
    • $133.44/day Level 3

    The levels are based on the level of care needed and will be determined by your case manager at the time of your assessment. The caregiver’s pay will be based on what the provider/ home care agency decides.

    How much does InclusiveOne pay for Structured Family Caregiving in Indiana?

    We provide structured family caregiving service statewide in Indiana. We pay 60% of each level as translated below:

    • $46.52/day Level 1
    • $59.83/day Level 2
    • $80.06/day Level 3

    Is structured family caregiving tax free?

    Yes! Current IRS guidance (linked here and here) indicates payments made for a waiver service to a recipient by an in-home caregiver are not taxed by the IRS. FSSA cannot provide tax advice and individuals should consult IRS rules & State tax rules (Indiana Code, Indiana Department of Revenue) to understand application to their unique situation.

    Who qualifies for structured family caregiving?

    Wheel chair assistance, transfer assistance, and gait assistance.

    You qualify for structured family care if:

    • you are a Medicaid waiver participant.
    • You live with your caregiver

    Requirements to become a waiver participant

    Grocery shopping, meal planning and meal prepping to support medically prescribed and therapeutic diets.

    Individuals must meet HCBS waiver eligibility and Medicaid eligibility guidelines to be eligible for a Medicaid HCBS waiver. To be eligible, individuals must:

    • Be aged, blind, or otherwise disabled
    • Reside in or transitioning into an HCBS-compliant setting (non-institutionalized)
    • Have income no greater than 300% of maximum Supplemental Security Income (SSI) amount (parental income for children under 18 years of age is disregarded)
    • Meet nursing facility level of care

    To apply, go to your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

    Caregiver Requirements for structured family Caregiving

    Caregiver companionship for games, leisure activities, and daily entertainment.

    Caregivers must be at least 18 years old, physically and mentally capable of caregiving, and pass a criminal background check, while also residing with the care recipient and being willing to provide daily care and support.
